The house Sollbrüggen was originally a medieval moated feudal estate, which was first mentioned in the 12th-century. In 1781 the estate burnt down to the ground and was rebuilt. The oldest still preserved part of the building is the gate lodge from the 18th-century. North and south wing stem from the 19th-century. In 1840 the house was probably rebuilt in the neo-classical style after plans by Adolph von Vagedes as a country estate for the silk industrialist Peter de Greiff.

The facility has been owned by the city since 1925 and houses the music school Krefeld since 1955. The listed building features in some rooms ceiling and wall paintings from the Wilhelminian style and Art Nouveau. The illusionistic paintings on the upper floor were probably created the Mainzer brothers Jakob and Benjamin Orth. In the years 2001-2003 all paintings in the house Sollbrüggen were extensively renovated.
