Verein fuer Heimatkunde e. V. Krefeld

If you are longing for traditional costume festivals and home melodies then the Krefeld association for local history is the wrong address. If you want to know more about the town of Krefeld and the Lower Rhine then it's just the right contact. With the founding year 1918 it is one of the oldest regional historical associations at the middle Lower Rhine. Since 1921 it has published 'Die Heimat - Krefelder Jahrbuch' (Homeland - Krefeld Almanac), which enjoys the highest reputation in professional circles. In 1991 it was awarded the first prize in the first nationwide competition for homeland magazines.
'Die Heimat' is published in a volume of 200 pages annually in December. The large-sized volumes contain richly pictured contributions written by recognised authors about town and regional history themes. Questions about economic development, transport system, city planning is being given room; monument preservation, archaeology, art, architecture, music, literature, language research find its due place and last but not least also landscape and nature protection. If you want to dig deeper into the Lower Rhine area shouldn't miss the 'Heimat'. There is hardly any relevant work, which doesn't quote from the magazine. Detailed register open up a rich treasure trove of the 71 volumes published until now.
Other club work is spread over the same theme ares as the club's published almanac. With seminars, field excursions, collaboration in the respective committees and with further publications the club does its bit to explore the local region. The club has 915 members right now. It is in close contact with archives, museums and similar facilities in the region.
