Krefeld yesterday and today
Despite Romanic findings at the shores of the river Rhine: Krefeld is a young city. Into the peaceful little village, which received the market rights from Karl IV 630 years ago, a lot of Mennonites migrated during the 16th and 17th century. They founded the velvet and silk industry, developed international economic ties with China and America, which are still alive today.
The people of Krefeld state with great self confidence, that their city was not built by the Princes and fostered by the bishops, but the citizens prospered due to their cosmopolitan attitude, creativity and hard work. This is most probably the reason why the people of Krefeld set high standards for their city.

Nature in Krefeld
Only half of the city area is urbanised. The nature reserves of Krefeld, parks and attractive residential areas in the city forest are famous.

KönigPALAST Krefeld
The highlight at the lower part of the Rhine, which offers a range of entertainment from stars of the rock and pop scene to the sport teams.
As a new home ground for the Krefeld Pinguine the multi functional indoor arena offers space for more than 8.000 spectators.
In just a few hours the KönigPALAST can be converted from an ice hockey venue to an event hall for concerts, exhibitions, product fairs and other large events.
